Abstract

The advancement of the industrial sector has resulted in a surge in the utilization of chemical dyes that are both toxic and carcinogenic. One viable approach to address this issue is through photodegradation utilizing a catalyst. In this research, silver nanoparticles were synthesized employing a bioreductor derived from klutuk banana pith extract (Musa balbisiana) supported by soybean seed activated carbon (AgNPs/SAC). The resultant AgNPs/SAC products were subjected to characterization using UV-Vis DRS, XRD, and TEM. The band gap value of AgNPs/SAC exhibited a decrease of 1.62 eV attributed to the presence of AgNPs. XRD analysis revealed an Ag size of 19.1029 nm. TEM characterization disclosed an average AgNPs size of 17.97±7.14 nm, with the AgNPs in AgNPs/SAC measuring 13.69±5.11 nm. The catalyst's efficacy in methylene blue adsorption test was determined to be 38%, while the photodegradation efficiency under sunlight exposure reached 78%. © 2025 Author(s).
