Abstract

This study aims to (1) analyse the effect of air column on the gasification process using rice husk as fuel; (2) observe the effect of air column on fuel consumption rate (FCR) and the char yield; (3) compare the thermal efficiency of gasification reactor between those using air columns and without air columns. In this study, besides without air columns, 2-inches and 3-inches diameter air columns were used. The air column is placed in the combustion chamber to access primary air. In this study, the water boiling test method was used to determine the ratio of heat energy transferred in the gasification process. This present study reveals that (1) Increased airflow speeds generally shorten the gasification process, and the highest temperatures are seen with the 2-inch air column, and (2) The char yields reach the largest value without air columns, namely 14.92%. and (3) The highest thermal efficiency comparison was obtained in the gasifier without an air column at a speed of 12 m / s reaching 19.91% with a Fuel Consumption Rate (FCR) of 5.30 Kg/hour and the second highest efficiency was in the use of a 2-inch air column with an air speed of 12 m / s with a value of 18.71% and Fuel Consumption Rate (FCR) 4.82 Kg/hour and this value is close to the SNI (Indonesian National Standard) stove requirements of 20%. © 2025 Author(s).
