This study aims to describe what is meant by a social emotional learning program and its urgency for adolescent development in schools. Adolescence is a challenging period due to significant changes from childhood to adulthood in terms of biological, cognitive and social aspects. Adolescent development must be equipped with social and emotional abilities that are in harmony with cognitive abilities to form effective behavior. Schools should integrate social-emotional learning programs to create a positive student climate. The method used in this study was a systematic literature review. The results showed that there were eleven articles that fit the research objectives. The eleven articles showed the contribution of social-emotional learning programs in schools for adolescents. In addition, this study also showed various reasons that support SEL programs needed by adolescents, namely regarding 1) biological aspects, 2) cognitive aspects, 3) social aspects, and 4) benefits obtained. Based on this, SEL programs are very important to be integrated into the scope of education in schools. © 2025 Author(s).
