Abstract

The security of archive rooms is crucial for safeguarding valuable items and important documents. However, conventional lock systems are often inadequate, leading to increased risks of theft and document loss. This study proposes the development of a security system using two-factor authentication (2FA) based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enhance the security of archive rooms. The proposed system utilizes an ESP32 to integrate Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and fingerprint sensors, ensuring that only authorized personnel can access the archive rooms. The embedded system development utilized MicroPython for fast and modular implementation by integrating various sensor libraries and IoT-enabled frameworks. Additionally, the system includes real-time monitoring capabilities, allowing responsible staff to track access activities through instant notifications sent via a Telegram Bot API. Functional testing was conducted to evaluate the performance of RFID sensor readings and fingerprint sensor accuracy. Comprehensive system testing demonstrated that the microcontroller effectively controls all functional elements. Testing with 10 staff members confirmed that the security system operates successfully with dual authentication for door access control. Real-time activity logs, with an average notification delay of 3.50 seconds after door opening, are sent to the responsible staff. This integration of advanced security measures provides a robust solution for archive room security. © 2025 Author(s).
