Abstract

Tin(IV) oxide-supported cobalt oxides (CoOx@SnO2) with CoOx content of 0.25 and 0.50% were used as photocatalysts on methylene blue aqueous solution degradation. The catalysts were prepared by impregnating SnO2 powder in cobalt nitrate solutions. The dried solid material was characterized using powder XRD, SEM/EDX, TEM and UV-VIS spectroscopy methods to deeply understand the physics properties of the samples. The electronic structure of the samples indicates good response in both the visible and ultra violet regions with the band gap energy (Eg) of around 1.813 to 3.944 eV, which is highly potent as visible and ultra violet light photocatalysts on methylene blue degradation. The adsorption data indicate the applicability of Freundlich adsorption isotherm for the system.
