Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a realistic mathematics education (RME) approach for self-efficacy. The study was conducted with a quantitative methodology via a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. The sample of 65 students enrolled in two eighth grade classes of a middle school in Indonesia, especially Bantul, was included in this study. One of these classes was randomly assigned to be the experimental group and instructed by means of RME, whereas the other class was assigned to be the control group and instructed by means of traditionally designed instruction. The instrument used in this study was self-efficacy questionnaires. Data analysis was done with the t test. The results of this study prove that RME is effective at developing self-efficacy. © 2018 Author(s).
