The objective of this study to determine optimal composition of microbial consortium formulated for oil degradation from selected marine bacteria. The optimization was conducted on some parameters such as nitrogen and surfactant variable. The samples types consisted of nitrogen free variable; surfactant addition; nitrogen + surfactant; and no addition of surfactant or nitrogen (as control). All samples were grown in Artificial Sea Water (ASW) medium with 1% crude oil and incubated during 0, 15, and 30 days. Thecapability of consortium in oil degrading was evaluated by detemination ofthe viability consortium andtotal degradation capacity of petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) by bacterial consortium on biodegradation culture media. The selected bacterial consortium from previous results designated as F14consisting of 3 (three) bacterial strains, LBF 1-0016 (Labrenzia agregata), LBF 1-0062 (Pseudomonas balearica), and LBF 1-0080 (Lysobacter concretionis). Bacterial viability was measured by the Total Plate Count (TPC) method, while TPH was determined by gravimetric method (weighing). The highest viability of the bacterial consortium was 3.61 × 1010 achieved by treatment of nitrogen addition at 15 days after inoculation. Whereas, the sample treated by nitrogen and surfactant addition has the highest capability in TPH degradation (35.83%). © 2018 Author(s).
