Abstract

Communication skills are one of the important skills of the 21st century that students must have because they are essential in carrying out daily life so that students can give and teach the knowledge they have. This research was a descriptive quantitative study using the Student Perception of Communication Skills Questionnaire (SPCSQ) to determine the perceptions of 82 grade IX junior high school students in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, towards their communication skills and what happens in the learning process as measured using the Communication Skills Observation Sheet (CSOS). Analysis of the data used correlation test analysis. The findings showed that the SPCSQ score was higher than the CSOS score. There was no relationship between student's perceptions of the communication skills they have on their communication skills in the learning process. Students feel and think their communication skills could have been better, but not so in the learning process. This shows that students' communication skills could be improved to the extent to which students understand the topic of discussion they are discussing. Students' perceptions of their communication skills will be by what is implemented in learning if students' understanding of learning material is in a suitable category. © 2025 Author(s).
