Abstract

Traffic crashes are a significant problem, especially among teenagers and young adults. Teenagers and young adults have the highest crash rates. Injuries from traffic crashs are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29 years. In Yogyakarta, motorcycles have become a popular vehicle, especially among students. The high intensity of motorcycle use also brings serious consequences, including the potential for an increased risk of traffic crashs. The student university age group is still in the teenage and young adult phase, so they often need more experience in driving decisions. This study compares college students' perceptions of factors that cause crashs and conditions that can potentially cause crashs. the study aims to identify patterns of behaviour related to safe driving. The study also aims to provide deeper insights into how university students perceive the risk of crashs and how their habits can contribute to traffic safety. The majority of students already have awareness and knowledge of the importance of safe driving. Students consider being in a hurry as the leading cause of crashs, regardless of their crash history. The lack of focus also presents a significant percentage in each category, although it is less common than the in-a-hurry factor. © 2025 Author(s).
