Abstract

Distance relays are one of the protection devices on electric power transmission lines. Changes to the electrical power system require resetting of safety equipment. As the load increases, the electric power transmission lines in Yogyakarta change with the addition of new substations. This condition causes the existing security settings to need to be reset. This article discusses the analysis of distance relay resetting calculations on Klaten Substation Conductors due to the addition of Substation Ampel. The analysis was conducted by calculating and simulating experiments on short-circuit disturbances in the network. Research data uses observations of the electric power system in Yogyakarta. The research results show (1) Analysis of distance relay resetting calculations, namely at Zone 1 at 80%, Zone 2 at 120%, and Zone 3 at 276.237%. (2) The results of the simulation analysis of short circuit disturbances on the Bantul-Pedan air transmission line for settings before and after the addition of the Ampel Substation were able to secure the line up to the side of the bus bar on the Pedan Substation. The results at Bantul-Ampel overhead transmission line for settings after adding Substation Ampel could not work at the 184.51% location, but settings before adding Ampel Substation could not work at locations 158% and 184.51%. The Bantul-Ampel air transmission line's protection distance relay can work correctly after adding the Ampel Substation. (3) The results of the comparative analysis of the settings before adding Substation Ampel did not meet the requirements for zone 3 coverage and resistive coverage, so resetting was needed. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
