Abstract

The working effectiveness of the human brain can be optimized and utilized in various situations, and one of them is that in the learning process. Maximizing the work of the brain may lead more effective and more efficient result along the learning process. This study aims to describe the application of mind mapping in music learning as an effort to increase students' critical thinking, where this issue is actually not a new thing in general studies, however, it has not been commonly applied in practical music learning processes. I have tried to implement mind mapping, with the aim that students gain a thorough understanding of the work of music that is being studied, in learning violin practices. The steps taken are students to discuss with their classmates about the most any related matters needed to understand and master a song, proceed with compiling mind mapping and it is continued by practicing the found ideas. Through this process, students are expected to get a comprehensive understanding, and obtain effectively relevant guidelines regarding the material that must be trained. Exceedingly students can generate critical thinking, which will later give influence in song interpretation. © 2019 IEEE.
