Environmental education has become more critical in the modern world as awareness of the impact of human activities on the environment increases. Informal education, such as edu-tourism, has emerged as a practical approach to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. One promising approach is using tourist villages as learning venues for environmental education. Visitors can interact with local communities and natural surroundings to learn about the environment. This research focuses on implementing edu-tourism in Tinalah tourism village, Yogyakarta, as an alternative approach to environmental education. This study aims to examine the potential of edu-tourism in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability and investigate the role of community involvement and local knowledge in developing a successful edu-tourism program. Qualitative methodology was employed to collect data, including interviews and observations, with purposive sampling used to select participants. The study suggests that edu-tourism can effectively facilitate environmental education by providing opportunities for experiential learning and engagement with nature. The importance of community involvement and local knowledge in the success of edu-tourism programs is highlighted. © 2025 Author(s).
