Abstract

For an extended period, fairy tales have significantly influenced societal perceptions of gender roles, commonly reinforcing patriarchal norms. This study was to critically analyze the nuanced representations of women in Charles Perrault's “Cinderella” through the lens of ideological feminist literary criticism, thereby resolving a gap in the analysis of this tale. The findings revealed Cinderella's initial portrayal as submissive and lacking agency, aligning with traditional patriarchal ideologies. However, her strength and bold choices challenged these norms, showing that women want to be more independent. This contrast between traditional gender roles and women's rights to be independent. © 2025 Policy Studies Organization.
