Abstract

The purpose of this study was to characterize the three types of crickets’ song based on its frequency and sound intensity. The research was done by giving three types of treatment of male crickets to determine the response indicated by cricket’ song. In the treatment I, a male cricket was placed between several female crickets to study the response of male cricket in announcing its presence. In treatment II, the male cricket was placed in one space with a female cricket whose sexual desire to it. This is to study the response of male cricket to attract a mate while mating. In the treatment III, another male cricket was placed in the same space with that cricket couple. This is to study the response of male cricket in block its opponent. Those three cricket’s responses showed by its song recorded using a voice recorder. The frequency and sound intensity of five seconds cricket’ song is analyzed using the software Sound Forge 10. Based on the data analysis and discussion that has been carried out, it can be concluded that each treatment has an impact on the frequency and intensity of the crickets. The highest frequency of creaking sound produced when male cricket announcing its presence near several female cricket. The lowest frequency of creaking sound produced when another male cricket was placed in the same space with that cricket couple. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
