Scaffolding in model eliciting activities (MEAs) to enhance creative thinking skills in learning mathematics

Abstract

In an era of uncertainty and increasingly complex life, we need creativity. Creativity is a product of creative thinking. To facilitating these competencies, mathematics can take a role by developing creative thinking skills. Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) is a learning approach that facilitates creative thinking because of the real-life and open-ended elements in the MEAs approach. The key factor in the MEA approach and creative thinking is providing guidance that can make students think for themselves. Even though they are assisting, the results of the solutions are authentic. That can be done by providing scaffolding with the metacognitive intention. This article described how scaffolding supports MEAs and also support creative thinking skills. The principles of MEAs indicate it is in line with efforts to generate creative thinking skills and scaffolding as guidance to appear both. An example was present as an illustration in assisting with MEAs and creative thinking skills. © 2022 Author(s).
