Abstract

Distance learning has been carried out for more than a year since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. One of the challenges for distance learning is the reduced motivation of students to learn. Interactive instructional media can be used to increase student motivation. One of the types of interactive media that can increase student motivation is AR-based media. This study aims to test the effectiveness of AR-based sharia financial socialization learning media for distance learning. This media was developed using the 4D model, which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The 66 student participants were divided into two groups, the control (N=33) and experimental groups (N=33). The experimental group used AR-based media for distance learning, while the control group used Google classroom media. The research was conducted during four meetings. Student motivation was measured using a modified Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS). The IMMS consists of four subscales of motivation and 36 questions measuring five points on a Likert scale. The results showed that there were significant differences in motivation between the group of students who used augmented reality-based media and the group that did not. Students who used the AR-based media had a motivational value which was higher than the group of students who did not use AR for distance learning. Based on the four subscale measurements used, relevance had the highest average. © 2023 Author(s).
