Abstract

The efficiency of using cutting tools is a serious concern in the production process. The efficiency of using cutting tools can be interpreted as an effort to slow down the tool wear. Owing to its direct impact on the surface quality and machining economics, tool wear is commonly used to evaluate the performance of a cutting tool. Also, fast-wearing tools must be replaced and that takes time. Speed and target-oriented production processes certainly cannot tolerate. Therefore, this study revealed the effect of cutting speed on the type of wear produced in the threading process made from JIS G 4051 Grade S45C Steel. This study used an experimental method to analyze the effect of cutting speed on the type of tool wear. This experiment used carbide insert tool with the Mitsubishi brand type MMT16ERAG60-EDP:262182. The result of this experiment showed that cutting speed affects the type of wear produced. The greater the cutting speed, the more varied the type of wear produced. The size of each type of tool wear produced is also getting bigger as the cutting speed is getting bigger. © 2023 Author(s).
