The digital transformation in language education has opened up new opportunities for integrating web-based platforms into reading instruction. The use of Ukiuki Tadoku as an extensive reading medium embedded in reading lessons provides a new experience for students. This study explores the impact of LMS-Ukiuki Tadoku on Japanese reading instruction, student engagement, and learning enjoyment among beginner-level students in higher education. Using a descriptive mixed design, this study collected quantitative and qualitative data through closed and open questionnaires administered to beginning learners in Indonesia. The results of the study show that for students, integrating LMS-Ukiuki Tadoku as a reading learning medium has a positive impact on reading learning. The use of Ukiuki Tadoku has a positive impact on the reading learning process by creating a flexible and interactive learning environment, increasing the frequency and motivation of students to read, while strengthening engagement and enjoyment through independent reading management, selecting materials according to interests and abilities, and supporting flexible interaction and feedback between lecturers and students through continuous reflection. These results offer valuable implications for teachers and curriculum designers who are seeking student-centered and technology-supported reading learning environments in Japanese language education, particularly in reading instruction. © 2026 IEEE.
