Abstract

In the digital age, AI and education is an intersection that open up endless possibilities for literacy improvement. Artificial intelligence-powered language learning tools today play an important role in nurturing literacy across diverse populations, expanding beyond traditional literacy skills to include competencies of digital literacies. AI in education enables personalised, adaptive learning experiences that can meet the needs of each individual learner and often result in higher levels of engagement and improved outcomes. AI-based language learning platforms use natural language processing (NLP), machine-learning and data analytics to generate personalized educational content and feedback loops. They offer the advantage when it comes to diagnosis of where learning gaps lie for each individual student, can provide tailor made exercises and give instant seamless feedback making a great process in learning by being efficient. AI can also help teachers by handling the administrative duties they typically must deal with, freeing that time up to devote more attention and focus on instructional methodologies as well as student engagement. Instead, what the paper does is to address some of the use-cases for AI in language learning - like intelligent tutoring systems, chatbots and adaptive learning platforms. In other words, intelligent tutoring systems can mimick one on one tutoring experiences by leading learners through a personalized learning path. Utilizing NLP, Chatbots conduct interactive dialogues with students to practice reading and writing activities as well comprehension. © 2024 IEEE.
