This study compares the high-resolution rainfall product of the PERSIANN-CCS satellite with 24 rain gauges scattered in Yogyakarta. Comparisons are carried out with daily, monthly, and yearly rainfall data. The correlation between PERSIANN-CCS and rain gauge was evaluated using correlation coefficient (CC). The error in the PERSIANN-CCS satellite rainfall estimates was evaluated using the statistical parameter Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and bias values (BIAS). Evaluation of monthly and annual rainfall estimates shows that PERSIANN-CCS and rain gauge observation ranged from good to very good correlation. The monthly satellite rainfall has a similar pattern with the rain gauge so that monthly and annual satellite rainfall estimates can be used as a reference for determining the rainy and dry season or evaluating climate change. However, the PERSIANN-CCS rainfall tends to be overestimated, so it needs to be corrected. The daily satellite rainfall estimates have a poor correlation against rain gauge products. The correlation coefficient was between 0.2 to 0.47. The MAE of daily rainfall datasets varied from 27 to 75 mm per day with an average error of 57 mm. The highest BIAS for daily rainfall was 0.82, and the average BIAS was 0.57. It shows the significant error value in satellite daily rainfall estimates. © 2023 Author(s).
