Students’ Integrity as a Character Education in Javanese Novel

Abstract

This research examines and reveals the character education in a Javanese novel entitled “Begog, Godhong Asem Pereng Gunung Merapi”. The identification is based on five main characters education from the ministry of education and culture. Those characters are religious value, integrity, nationalism, independence, and mutual cooperation. All of those characters can be found in both dialogues and narrations. “Begog, Godhong Asem Pereng Gunung Merapi” is a novel that tells about the struggle process of a student named Begog to reach his dream to be a teacher. The purpose of this study was to determine the character education found in the Javanese novel entitled “Begog, Godhong Asem Pereng Gunung Merapi”. The research method used was qualitative with hermeneutic type. In this research, the data are in form of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs taken from that novel. The results of this study indicate that this novel contains six religious value values, ten values of integrity, one value of nationalism, three values of independence, and two values of mutual cooperation. From the results, we can conclude that the novel “Begog, Godhong Asem Pereng Gunung Merapi” contains five main characters education based on the ministry of education and culture, especially on integrity. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
