The effectiveness of soil reinforcement with mixed layer in increase bearing capacity using loading test

Abstract

Soil reinforcement is method to improve the properties of the soil so that the soil can retain load on it. This study aims to determine the effect of the mixed layer on the ultimate bearing capacity (qult). The added materials are used gravel, rice husk ash, cement, waste concrete, and bricks. The research method is experimental by making a prototype by digging soil in a box as deep as 16 cm with a size of 40 cm × 40 cm, then inserting 3 layers of reinforcement into the excavation at a certain height, and placing a foundation model made of the iron plate with a top size of 10 cm x 10 cm, a base of 20 cm × 20 cm and a height of 10 cm on the surface of the ground improvement layer then load the foundation model with a hydraulic jack with a capacity of 3 tons. The results showed that the Wates soil with LCW A variation was 618.39%. The variation of LU W obtained is 582.76%. Imogiri soil, LCI Variation A obtained the ultimate bearing capacity of 28.89%. Variation of LU I obtained the ultimate bearing capacity of 18.33%. Based on the results of the various tests, it can be concluded that the use of mixed layer materials can increase the bearing capacity and reduce the settlement and water content. © 2023 Author(s).
