Development of Rescue Drone integrated with Internet of Things Control for Beach Surveillance - Case Study at Glagah Beach

Abstract

Indonesia's extensive coastline makes beach destinations a popular choice for both local and foreign tourists. However, beach tourism also has risks, such as high sea waves which can cause tourists on the beach to be swept away by the waves and drown. Another thing that causes accidents on beaches or at sea in Indonesia is the inadequate security system and technology for monitoring coastal areas and a lack of supervision, especially for coastal tourist attractions managed by villages or communities. Glagah Beach in Kulon Progo, Republic of Indonesia is one of the beaches that has many cases of tourists being swept away by the waves or drowning. Based on that background, this research aims to create and implement a rescue drone or rescue UAV (U nmanned Aerial Vehicle) which functions as a monitoring device for coastal areas. This study used in creating a rescue drone is Research and Development (R&D). This rescue drone is designed to assist beach tourism personnel and coastal residents in monitoring coastal and sea conditions, as well as rescuing people who are swept away by the waves. The rescue drone is equipped with a high-quality camera including an infrared camera for capturing videos and pictures at night. Additionally, the device can carry up to three buoys to aid in evacuating victims. The UAV drone control system is integrated with an Internet of Things (IoT) application, allowing for easy operation via an Android smartphone and providing the latest information about wave height and weather from BMKG (Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council). © 2024 IEEE.
