Abstract

The intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and literature now embarks on a new realm of creating plots to develop stories and characters. This paper will delve in some detail to consider just how the landscape of storytelling has changed with the invention of new and advanced AI technologies, changing the nature of engaging tales as literature has otherwise always been carried out. This is one of those studies among them, 'The Turing Test for Literature,' which examines the question of whether the leading AI is driving the traditional concept of authorship and human creativity into an even more subtle question. Underlining the discussion is the concept of the Turing Test, proposed by Alan Turing in the year 1950 as one of the methods to determine a machine's intelligence. The test was originally designed to test whether AI could engage in conversation like humans. Although that offers a good stage for using the possibility that AI-authored literature would be undistinguished in plots and characters from human-authored ones, it remains likely that a great deal of literature could pass for being authored by humans. It is from this premise that questions, therefore, arise and call for an examination of AI-produced texts from human-authored works, parallels, differentials, and implications against the future of storytelling. The impact of AI extends to narrative construction in a manner that is beyond simple automation; it has an influence on the very nature of the creative process. Such linguistic competencies and stylistic finesse, which AI systems can 'learn' and be fine-tuned to, come through the use of algorithms enabling large corpus text analysis and allow the systems to relate compelling stories. © 2024 IEEE.
