Modification of Spandex Fabric with the Addition of Silver Nanoparticles and MTMS

Abstract

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Padina sp. was successfully carried out by the ultrasonication method. Green synthesis is done by mixing AgNO3 precursor solution with Padina sp. extract which acts as a bio reductor agent and starch solution as a stabilizing agent. The resulting nanoparticles are then deposited into spandex fabric and MTMS using the deep coating method. Based on UV-Vis and PSA tests, the resulting silver nanoparticles have a maximum absorption peak at a wavelength of 444.50 nm with a particle size of 60.2 nm. The characterization results of modified spandex fabric showed a significant difference in contact angle and mechanical properties, and also antibacterial and antifungal properties. The mechanical properties test showed that all spandex fabrics has hard and tough properties. The spandex fabric after modification with addition silver nanoparticle showed the highest in toughness. The adding of MTMS increased the contact angle of spandex fabric. The spandex fabric after modification with MTMS has the highest in contact angle. The nanoparticle silver has the highest antimicrobial activities against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and to Malassezia furfur. However, the spandex fabric after modification with MTMS and nanoparticle has the highest inhibiting the Staphylococcus epidermidis. © 2024 University of Mohammed Premier Oujda Morocco.
