Abstract

Background and Study Aim. Much of the crisis in the current education system is caused by students' low physical fitness and self-confidence. This study aims to determine the effect of physical fitness on self-confidence and its impact on the academic achievement of Physical Education of Grade V Primary School students. Materials and Methods. This research is a correlational research. The subjects of the study were Class V students in elementary schools. The sample was determined using random sampling totalling 115 students (male 66, female 49, age 10-12 years). The academic achievement instrument is based on report card scores in Physical Education subjects, the instrument used to measure Physical Fitness is the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKSI), participants' physical self-confidence is assessed using a physical self-confidence scale. The analysis was performed using regression techniques in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 software. Results. The results showed that (1) physical fitness affects self-confidence in elementary school students (r 0.259, p-value 0.005 < 0.05), (2) physical fitness affects Physical Education academic achievement in elementary school students (r 0.513, p-value 0.000 < 0.05), (3) self-confidence affects Physical Education academic achievement in elementary school students (r 0.519, p-value 0.000 < 0.05). Conclusions. We can conclude that the better the physical fitness of students, the more students' confidence will increase, and have an impact on improving Physical Education academic achievement. © 2024, DJ Studio.
