Elementary schoolers misconception on the human blood circulation system

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the Natural Science misconception of fifth grade students on the human circulatory system. This was a quantitative descriptive study. The sample consisted of 34 fifth grade students. Sampling used was Simple Random Sampling technique. Data collection technique used was a misconception detection test with two tiers of multiple choice of 18 questions. Data analysis techniques refered to the combined indicators set. Students were justified to be misconceptions if the answers at the first level were wrong and the level of confidence in answering them was "sure". The instrument used have validated by expert validation and empirical test. Empirical test used the biserial point coefficient formula, with a validity level was 0.374, and reliability using the formula Kuder Richars (KR.20) was 0.52. The results showed that 41.170% of students experienced misconceptions on the concept of definition of hemophilia and the location of chambers in the heart. Meanwhile, 35.290% of student experience misconceptions about the concept of terms in blood vessels. There were 2.940% of students experiencing misconceptions on material related to activities in maintaining human blood circulation organs. © 2024 Author(s).
