In mathematics learning, students' ability to face word problems related to mathematics in quadratic equation is still considered lacking. There are many influencing factors, one of which is the inaccuracy in teaching the students how to evaluate and look for problems in word problems in a good and efficient way. Literature reviews were carried out on "Learning Mathematical Rules with Reasoning"and "An Analysis of Errors and Misconceptions in the Study of Quadratic Equations."Related publications were also analyzed to figure out whether they contain mathematical reasoning abilities and problems in solving word problems. The study shows that reasoning skills are needed to represent the problems given. Strong reasoning abilities are needed to be able to obtain logical and systematic mathematical problem solving, therefore in learning mathematics, especially in solving word problems, it is better to start teaching students to solve using the FOPS strategy in which there is a solution using the schema method, because this method can improve the ability of mathematical reasoning in solving a word problem. © 2024 Author(s).
