This chapter explores how chemistry education can become more meaningful by connecting learning to students’ local environments, cultures, and real-life experiences. It highlights place-based education (PBE) as an approach that encourages students to engage with community issues and sustainability challenges. By integrating socio-scientific issues and ethno-chemistry, the chapter shows how traditional knowledge and cultural practices can be linked to scientific concepts. It also presents a community-engaged, project-based learning model where students collaborate with local communities to address real problems. This approach enhances understanding, strengthens relevance, and fosters responsible, reflective, and environmentally aware learners Copyright © 2026, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
