Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of ignition timing on exhaust emissions and engine characteristics (torque, power, and fuel consumption) using Ethanol (E100) fuel. This type of research is an experimental study with the object of the Yamaha Vega Force FI 115 cc engine using a compression ratio of 11:1 and the addition of injection duration of 24 percent from standard conditions with ignition timings of 3 degrees, 5 degrees, 8 degrees, 11 degrees and 13 degrees before TDC. Tests were carried out using a dynamometer, measuring cup, and gas analyzer. The best research results were obtained at an ignition time of 11 degrees before TDC. The percentage increase in power at the ignition timing of 11 degrees before TDC is an average of 3.31 percent, and the torque increase is 3.98 percent. An ignition timing of 11 degrees before TDC also improves specific fuel consumption by an average of 9 percent. In addition, the ignition timing of 11 degrees before TDC also reduces HC levels by 16 percent and decreases CO levels by 12 percent. © 2024 Author(s).
