According to Programme for International Student Assesment (PISA) 2012, Indonesia obtained an average of mathematics score that was far below the average mathematics score of OECD countries. The aim of this study investigating the relationship between instrumental motivation, self efficacy, mathematics work ethic, teacher morale, and the ability of teacher to classify student on mathematics achievement. The dataset in the study was analyzed using a multilevel model because the data contained a hierarchical structure (student and school levels). The results of the analysis showed that the variables of self-efficacy, instrumental motivation, math work ethic, and teacher morale were statistically significant predictors of students' mathematical achievement. Meanwhile, the teacher's ability to group students showed insignificant results. The low accuracy of the results of this analysis of course requires further discussion and discussion of significant variables or vice versa, so the urgency of the research is expected to be able to investigate and determine the relationship between variables that affect mathematical achievement. © 2024 Author(s).
