Abstract

In an era characterized by rapid technological advancements and an increasingly data-driven society, numerical and scientific literacy have become fundamental competencies for individuals to navigate complex challenges. This study systematically reviews and analyzes existing research on numerical and scientific literacy through a bibliometric approach. By examining research trends from 2013 to September 2024, this study identifies key themes, methodological approaches, and geographical distributions of studies on the topic. The findings reveal an increasing focus on the integration of these literacies into education to enhance students' critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills—key competencies required in the 21st century. Moreover, the study highlights the predominant use of assessment strategies and digital learning media to improve literacy outcomes. The results indicate that research on scientific and numerical literacy remains a growing field, with gaps in interdisciplinary approaches and real-world applications. The study calls for further investigation into effective pedagogical strategies and instructional innovations that foster these essential literacies among learners. By addressing these gaps, educators and policymakers can better equip students with the skills necessary for academic success and lifelong learning in a knowledge-based economy. © 2025 by the authors; licensee Learning Gate.
