The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology offers transformative potential in civic education. However, the integration of AI in this area is still limited compared to its application in STEM, which has taken advantage of adaptive guidance systems and personalized learning. The lack of exploration of AI integration strategies in the context of civic values is the main reason for conducting a systematic literature review on the use of AI in civic education. This article is a systematic literature review that identifies and categorizes relevant research, assesses the results obtained, and synthesizes the findings. Data selection and screening were conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The use of AI in civic education has the potential to personalize learning through student data analysis, increase student engagement, optimize the digital learning environment, strengthen the understanding of citizenship concepts, and support student decision-making by integrating ideological values. However, there are technical challenges such as connectivity and further research is needed to determine the long-term impact of using AI. This systematic literature review is expected to contribute to developing theoretical and practical frameworks that can support the application of AI in civic education. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
